Porsche unleashes brutal Cayenne Turbo S

Want an SUV that eats muscle-cars for breakfast? Look no further

Mercedes-Benz has until now enjoyed on-paper bragging rights for muscular SUVs with its barrel-chested ML 63 AMG, which pumps out a robust 375kW and 630Nm. But Porsche has just raised the bar with its range-topping Cayenne Turbo S.

The company's new SUV flagship sports a twin-turbo 4.8-litre V8, which puts 404kW and stump-pulling 750Nm at the disposal of your right loafer. To say it's fast would be like saying Middle East summers are a tad warm. A 0-100km/h split of 4.8sec and top speed of 280km/h are staggering for a 2.3-tonne SUV, and pretty much lineball with a 911 Carrera.

Despite its added performance, Porsche claims the Turbo S fares no worse at the fuel pump than the regular (368kW) Cayenne Turbo. Porsche says the Turbo S's added oomph was harnessed via a modified exhaust system and improvements to the engine management system.

Externally, the Turbo S is distinguishable from its lesser sibling via 21-inch SportPlus alloy wheels and a bespoke sports exhaust system with four tailpipes made from aluminum investment casting (a high-precision casting technique). The air intake grills and wheelarch extensions are also colour-matched with the rest of the bodywork.

The Turbo S comes standard with air suspension and ride-height control, along with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and Servotronic speed-sensitive variable power steering.

Stopping power comes from garbage-can-lid-sized discs -- 380mm diameter at the front and 358mm at the rear -- but ultra-hard-chargers can specify the optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), which are lighter and less prone to fading.

Inside, the Turbo S scores a 'Comfort Memory Package' for the front seats, rear seating with individual seat contours, aluminum door panels and two-tone leather upholstery.

You also get the latest generation of Porsche Communication Multimedia System Management (PCM), inclusive of a navigation module with hard drive that provides a full range of new functions controlled via a touch-screen.
