Sydney Motorsport Park will once again host the Porsche Rennsport Australia Motor Racing Festival... and it has some headline acts direct from Stuttgart.
Two Le Mans stars, the Porsche 935-77 and LMP1-98, will headline the festival's second edition, which will run from April 30 to May 1, 2016. Both will perform on-track demonstrations throughout the weekend.
The 935 was based on the road-going 930 Turbo and produced around 463kW from a 2.85-litre twin-turbo flat-six. It won Le Mans outright in 1979.
Interestingly the LMP1-98 wasn't run by the factory at Le Mans. Instead long-time Porsche privateer Reinhold Joest campaigned the open-top 'Spyder' alongside the factory 911 GT1-98, which triumphed at La Sarthe in 1998. It runs a 3.2-litre twin-turbo flat-six.
Beyond the headline acts there's plenty of further on-track action, highlighted by the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge championships.
Other events include historic and modern sports car racing, a Porsche regularity challenge, show and shine, Rennsport 'pop-up' dealership and a Porsche Sport Driving School showcase.
Children are also catered for via a Kids Zone, which includes a Kids Driving School.
"We're counting down the days to the second Rennsport event in Australia; interest has been incredibly strong from those willing to both attend and compete," said Porsche Cars Australia Managing Director and CEO Sam Curtis.
"We're thrilled to confirm these two iconic Porsches, both with unique histories and success on sports car racing's world stage, Le Mans. Rennsport is a tremendous showcase of Porsche heritage and it's great to be able to bring two racing greats of the Porsche brand to our Australian enthusiasts."
Tickets start from $20 and can be purchased at the event website.
