Herrod Performance has announced a new performance pack for the already rabid Ford Ranger Raptor, and it enhances the lauded dual-cab 4x4 super-ute’s power output by more than 27 per cent.
The Melbourne-based performance operation says it has liberated an extra 60kW of power and 200Nm of torque at the hubs, courtesy of a bigger PWR intercooler and a specially-developed direct-flash engine and transmission calibration, which adds a few extra pounds of boost.
A bigger transmission cooler is also fitted in the interest of longevity.
Taking to social media to announce the release of the pack, Rob Herrod revealed he and his team had been working on the power pack since before the second-generation Ford Ranger Raptor went on sale in August last year, powered by a class-leading 292kW/583Nm 3.0-litre turbo-petrol V6.
“We have had access to the Raptor long before the truck was released thanks to the engineers at Ford,” Herrod said.
“To allow us to develop the perfect direct flash engine and transmission calibration along with a larger intercooler and transmission coolers that we have had manufactured by our great partners PWR Advanced Cooling Technology.”
No official performance figures for the enhanced Raptor have been announced, but customers are almost certain to be able to notice a tangible improvement in acceleration, with the 0-100km/h time likely to drop from around six seconds to the low fives.
This will no doubt resonate with Raptor buyers and owners, especially those salty over the American version getting more power and torque than Australian examples.
Chris Herrod said the team has been inundated with enquiries and installation bookings, so much so there was now a waiting list stretching into September.
Importantly, however, the pack won’t nullify the Raptor’s five-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty due to the close relationship between Ford and Herrod Performance, which helped Ford develop both this year’s Finke Desert Race-winning Ranger Raptor racer and the 500kW Ford Mustang R-Spec released in 2020.
“We have worked directly with Ford who will be notified that the Herrod power pack has been fitted to your vehicle giving you piece of mind when it comes to new car warranty,” Rob Herrod said.
“If there is ever a warranty issue your dealer will work with Herrod Performance to resolve the issue.
“If the issue is found to be caused by the Herrod Performance power pack, Herrod will cover the warranty directly with Ford.”
The power pack is available exclusively from Herrod Performance’s Melbourne workshop and has a fitted cost of $5950.
