Power hike, cleaner running for Fiat Ducato
New Euro 5 engines deliver best-in-class output and lower consumptionFiat's local-spec Ducato range is now more powerful and cheaper to run, following the introduction of an upgraded 130kW engine.
Replacing the previous 108kW engine, the 180 Multijet turbo-diesel four-cylinder complies with the Euro 5 emissions standard and produces 400Nm of torque for a 2000kg payload. Power has improved by 22kW and the new torque figure represents a 50Nm jump.
Fiat claims that the new engine makes the Ducato the most powerful van in its segment, but the story doesn't end there. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are improved as well. In the NEDC combined-cycle test program, the Ducato is now rated at 8.0L/100km and 224g/km.
Sales for the Ducato exceeded 1000 units last year and the upgraded model is expected to raise sales volume higher still throughout 2014, thanks to the new engine and the addition of reverse parking sensors as standard. Fiat sells the Ducato with a five-year/200,000km warranty and 24,000km service intervals. The revised Ducato remains priced from $40,000 and is due to reach local dealerships from "early May."
