Power increase for McLaren MP4-12C

More power and more features for McLaren's half-million dollar sports coupe

The McLaren MP4-12C has been upgraded with more power and additional features.

Its M838T twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 engine now outputs 460kW, an improvement of 18.4kW, with no fuel economy or CO2 emissions penalty (11.7L/100km and 279g/km, respectively). Throttle mapping and improved clutch control sees the MP4-12C’s seven-speed SSG transmission tuned for faster, smoother response.

An extended colour palette, range of interior leather and wheel options mark the most significant change to the sporty model since its 2011 launch, allowing what McLaren says is “yet more scope for personalisation”.

If the sound of a twin-turbo V8 isn’t enough, McLaren has tweaked its Intake Sound Generator (ISG) system through three settings, controlling the amount of engine intake sound heard inside the cabin. The Meridian audio package is also improved, enhancing treble and bass response.

A new door entry system sees a small button replace the sensor touch system while a rain activation feature for the headlamps, modified climate control system and one-touch seat return system improve driver comfort.

Vehicle Lift will be available as an option on 2013 model year vehicles, allowing MP4-12C’s nose and tail to be raised for improved ground clearance (40mm and 25mm respectively).

As a courtesy to existing owners, McLaren will offer the package of upgrades at no cost.

“The team at McLaren Automotive recognises that our existing and future customers deserve the very best product and service we can offer, and the launch of the enhanced 12C reaffirms its position as the most powerful luxury sports car among its competitor set,” said McLaren managing director, Antony Sheriff.

The latest iteration of the McLaren MP4-12C is available in the UK now from £176,000 – or from $500,000 in Australia.
