Toyota is giving potential new Prado buyers until the end of April to snap up the latest limited-edition Altitude model.
Priced at $5,000 above the Prado GXL on which it is based, the Altitude adds a heap of extras equipment valued at “more than $10,000”.
Altitude comes with standard SatNav including a seven-inch touch-screen dash display, a rear-seat entertainment system, a power sunroof and a 14-speaker sound system complete with a remote-control, six-disc in-dash CD/DVD player.
The rear-seat entertainment system employs a ceiling-mounted nine-inch monitor, 5.1-channel surround sound and three wireless headphones. The system can be operated by front passengers from the touch screen display, or by remote control from the rear.
The Prado Altitude also comes with back-guide monitor that “provides added guidance when using the reverse camera while four sonar parking sensors have been added at the front to the four already fitted to the rear.”
Also included in the Prado Altitude are “leather accented” seats, privacy glass and classy Optitron instruments. Toyota points out that GXL Prados already come with climate control, steering wheel audio controls, smart entry and engine start, cruise control and long-range fuel tanks with a total capacity of 150 litres.
Standard GXL safety equipment includes seven airbags, stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes, hill-assist and downhill assist.
The Prado Altitude is available either with Toyota’s 4.0-litre petrol V6, priced before on-road costs at $68,490, or the 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine at $69,490. Standard transmission is a five-speed automatic.
Colour choices include Silver Pearl, Graphite Crystal Pearl and Ebony – all teamed up with black interior trim. The latter two colours also offer the choice of an Ivory interior.
Five grand just to keep the kids occupied on long trips would be considered money well spent by many SUV owners.
