More kit and lowered pricing are the two stand-out points in the rationalised Mazda2 model range announced by Mazda Australia today.
The entry-level Mazda2 Neo now has 'Sport' appended to its name, as does the Mazda2 Maxx, which now replaces both the former mid-level variant and the Mazda2 Genki flagship.
In addition to the original Neo spec, the Mazda2 Neo Sport gains 15-inch alloy wheels, but the price comes down by $760.
The new Mazda2 Maxx Sport gains front fog lights, a chrome exhaust tip, trip computer and leather gear knob (manual models only), with red stitching for the seats and leather-bound steering wheel. Climate control is also standard now, yet the car's price has been reduced by $760. With the added equipment the Maxx Sport variant is now the flagship, but at a lower price ceiling than the superseded Mazda2 Genki.
Mazda has introduced Jet Black mica and Blue Reflex mica to the Mazda2's exterior colour palette. Both colours were first seen here on the Mazda6. Like all metallic and mica colours, they're a no-cost option.
"Mazda2 is already Australia's favourite city car and this latest upgrade makes it even more appealing than ever," said director of marketing for Mazda Australia, Alastair Doak – as quoted in a press release.
"Style and safety have always been two hallmarks of the Mazda2 range but with buyers also benefitting from improved value there is more reason than ever before for new car buyers to consider this impressive light car stalwart."
Mazda2 pricing
Neo Sport five-speed manual $15,790
Neo Sport automatic $17,440
Maxx Sport five-speed manual $16,930
