The price of admission to the Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatch has just gone up thousands of dollars.
With the Volkswagen Golf GTI Original three-door in run-out and the manual version of the full-fat GTI culled for 2019, it will cost you $45,490 to get into a MY19 Volkswagen Golf GTI DSG.
That’s $8000 more than an Original and $3500 more than a MY18 GTI six-speed manual. However, compared to the old DSG automatic version of the GTI, it is a $1000 price rise.
The new pricing was confirmed today by Volkswagen Group Australia, along with details of power and torque boosts plus more equipment for 2019.
Due in dealerships in October, the latest version of the iconic German hot hatch will punch out 180kW and 370Nm from its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine -- a rise of 11kW and 20Nm respectively over the current model and equal with the limited Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Edition 1.
Other new equipment includes replacing the MY18’s six-speed DSG automatic with the seven-speed wet-clutch unit from the Volkswagen Golf R.
Also coming from the pumped-up all-wheel drive Golf R is an electro-mechanical front differential lock and ventilated front and rear disc brakes.
The 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI also comes in five-door only. Three doors are available with the Golf GTI Original while stocks last.
Other MY19 upgrades include a host of previously optional driver assist systems, including front assist with city emergency brake and pedestrian monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane assist with adaptive lane guidance, traffic jam assist and a blind-spot monitor with rear traffic alert and LED headlights with light assist.
The interior also gets the Active Info Display digital instrument panel with unique GTI functions and outside there are power-folding mirrors.
Volkswagen claims MY19 GTI offers $5000 worth of additional value -- $2500 in equipment and $2500 in the upgraded driveline.
The MY19 Volkswagen Golf GTI will also offer two option packs. The $2300 sound and style package offers 19-inch Brescia alloy wheels (pictured), a 9.2-inch satellite-navigation system, gesture control, voice control and Dynaudio 400W sound system.
The $3900 luxury package offers leather upholstery, heated front seats, power driver’s seat with memory, exterior mirrors with memory function and a panoramic power glass sunroof.
Metallic/pearl effect paint is a $500 option.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen has announced that 2018 stock of the Golf R is being run out with drive-away pricing.
The 2019 Volkswagen Golf R line-up will be pared back for next year, with Grid and manual versions being culled.
For now, the 213kW/380Nm AWD Golf R is priced from $48,490 drive-away for the hatchback Grid Edition. That model was previously $47,490 plus on-road costs.
