Ford Mustang Mach-E to get power boost

New report suggests Blue Oval has quietly raised the peak power of its pure-electric SUV

Official Ford dealer documents suggest some versions of the Ford Mustang Mach-E will bag more power and torque than the pre-production model unveiled last November.

According to information leaked to

, the power boost will affect at least four variants of the battery-powered SUV.

Instead of the promised 190kW and 414Nm for the standard rear-drive Mach-E, the production model has had its outputs boosted to 198kW and 429Nm.

It's a similar story for the rear-drive Extended Range model, which has had power wound up slightly to 216kW (+6kW), while delivering the same 429Nm of torque.

The faster all-wheel drive Standard Range version, meanwhile, will now come with an extra 8kW/15Nm, while the AWD Extended Range variant gets the biggest power bump, with an extra 10kW and 15Nm, raising total power to 258kW and torque to 580Nm.

It's not known whether the range-topping Mach-E GT has also received an upgrade from its already punchy 342kW and 830Nm figures.

There's no explanation why the power and torque figures have changed, although some are suggesting that a further development of the Ford electric motors has liberated the extra power and torque.

It's also unknown whether acceleration performance has been affected, nor if the more efficient electric motors have boosted the claimed range figures for Ford's answer to the upcoming Tesla Model Y.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has been confirmed for Australia, but the big question is when it will arrive here given the First Edition version is already sold out in the US and global production will be limited -- by battery supply -- to just 50,000 units in the first year.
