Production Mercedes-Benz EQS previewed

The pure-electric 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQS has been officially previewed without any camouflage for the first time ahead of its launch later this year.

In a single image of the battery-powered limo, it's possible to see how designers have evolved the dramatic Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS concept that was first revealed back in 2019 at the Frankfurt motor show.

And the latest pic reveals the zero-emissions limo will keeps its curvy four-door silhouette to ensure it looks like nothing else on the road.

Brightening up the teaser and yet more is unearthed about the EQS, which is likely to be positioned as a more premium rival to the Tesla Model S.

It will get flush pop-out door handles and swept-back headlights and tail-lights, conventional door mirrors and aerodynamically-enhanced disc-style alloy wheels that should help maximise its driving range.

Speaking of the distance the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS will cover between recharges, the German luxury car-maker has already let slip the electric alternative to an S-Class will cover up to 700km between top-ups.

Measuring in at about 5000mm long, 1900mm wide and standing at around 1450mm tall, the production EQS is set to be significantly smaller than the concept, but still offer S-Class levels of space, comfort and luxury.

Set to be the first Benz ever to be based on the all-new Modular Electric Architecture created especially for battery-powered vehicles, the EQS will also take advantage of a completely flat floor and a stretched wheelbase that will nudge almost 3000mm long.

Driven by two electric motors, the Mercedes-Benz EQS is expected to come close to matching the concept’s 350kW of power and 760Nm of torque that should ensure a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 200km/h.

The original concept was claimed to be a self-driving pioneer, and when the electric limo goes on sale later in 2021 it should be capable of fully Level 3 autonomous driving on the highway.

To date, Mercedes has already detailed the EQS’ advanced torque vectoring chassis tech, cinematic full-width touch-screen and its pioneering new medical-grade filtration system.
