Volvo's upmarket Polestar brand has released the first teaser image for its second model, appropriately called the Polestar 2.
Created to rival the Tesla Model 3, the Polestar 2 will follow in the tyre tracks of the Porsche 911-rivalling Polestar 1 - but instead of coming equipped with a plug-in hybrid power, the 2 will introduce the car-maker's all-new pure-electric powertrain.
Looking like it will keep its fastback styling, the more mainstream 2 will come equipped with Google's new human-machine interface that features Google Assistant, a program that works with natural-speak voice commands.
Priced between $55,000 to $90,000 (in Europe at least), the headline news is the four-door coupe will produce up to 300kW and come with a range of about 560km.
Sharing many parts, including its platform, with the Volvo XC40 SUV, the Polestar 2 was originally previewed by the Volvo 40.2 concept and is touted as the premium brand's breakthrough model.
Following on from its launch, the Polestar 2 will be joined by a large more family-orientated SUV that will also be pure-electric and is likely to be called the Polestar 3.
As well as being sold in Europe, the battery-powered Polestar 2 will also be offered to its customers via Volvo's Care by Volvo subscription service.
It's not yet been confirmed whether or not the Polestar 2 is destined for Australia, nor when it will arrive. The first Polestar 1 was ruled out over its lack of right-hand drive.
