An executive decision within Chrysler will see production of the PT Cruiser continue.
The production cessation has been cancelled and the uniquely styled vehicle will once again be built at the Toluca plant in Mexico.
Chrysler Australia will be importing the PT Down Under once again, but exact numbers are not yet know. Public Relations Manager at Chrysler Australia, Jerry Stamoulis, told the Carsales Network that some 7,000 PT Cruisers have found homes in Australia and that it is an "Important car for Australia" and will continue to be sold here.
Globally, Chrysler has sold more than 1.3 million PT Cruisers in more than 60 different countries since its introduction in the year 2000.
"The heritage-styled Chrysler PT Cruiser continues to be a global success story," says Peter Fong, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chrysler Brand and Lead Executive for the Sales Organisation, Chrysler Group LLC.
"With more than 1.3 million PT Cruisers sold in more than 60 countries since 2000, we're excited to announce we're re-energising the iconic and award-winning PT Cruiser."
The vehicle is a front-wheel drive small car with retro styling that Chrysler claims is "too cool to categorise".
