A re-run of the original Ampol Trial kicks off this weekend to mark the 50th anniversary of the event. The re-run will see around 80 period cars retrace much of the route of the original trial which was won by Wilf Murrell and Alan Taylor in the then just released Peugeot 403.
Peugeot Australia is supporting the anniversary event.
The ‘Peugeot Round Australia Re-Run’ starts from Sydney on Sunday (April 23). The participants are due to return to Sydney on May 21 after completing around 12,000km.
In partnership with Peugeot Automobiles Australia, the Peugeot Car Club of Victoria is organising the event with the assistance of other Pug clubs from around Australia.
The field includes pre-1970 Peugeots as well as a group of representative cars of other marques from the early 1950s. Participants and cars from the original events will also form part of the rerun.
The field will begin their journey from Parramatta Park, Amphitheatre 12, at 9.00am on Sunday.
