First images of the all-new, pure-electric Maserati GranTurismo coupe have been released ahead of its unveiling later this year.
Primed to adopt its curves from the well-received 2014 Alfieri concept, the GranTurismo prototype pictured here features heavy camouflaging but its GT proportions suggest it will have looks designed to stun.
Differing from the original concept, the 2022 Maserati GranTurismo appears to feature a pair of headlights lifted from the Maserati MC20 supercar rather than narrower units mounted below the leading edge of the bonnet as seen on the Alfieri.
Sadly, no further details have been revealed about Maserati's first EV, but we already know it will come with an all-new electric powertrain, dubbed Folgore and developed in-house.
In the pure-electric version of the MC20, the 800-volt three-motor Folgore powertrain will comprise an electric motor mounted on the front axle and two electric motors over the rear axle.
It's thought the GranTurismo will be offered with both dual and triple electric motors, and that the fastest version will deliver a 0-100km/h acceleration time of less than three seconds.
There's no word on battery-size, but to match its GT credentials expect a range of at least 450-500km.
Developed to deliver a "distinctive sound", it's thought the new Folgore powertrain will artificially recreate the soundtrack of a V6 or, for the GranTurismo, a V8.
Set to be launched later this year, the new pure-electric GranTurismo is tipped to touch down in Australia some time in 2022.
Beating it to market later this year will be the Maserati MC20 super-coupe, which will be followed by the MC20 Spyder later in 2022.
Later on in 2021 Maserati will also launch the Grecale mid-size SUV, which is expected to become its best-selling model for the Trident brand.
Other new Maserati models in the pipeline include the GranTurismo-based GranCabrio convertible (2022) and battery-powered versions of the Grecale (2022) and MC20 (2022). In 2023, Maserati will continue its race to replace its current range with an all-new version of its Levante SUV.
