Quad-motor 2028 BMW M3 EV teased

State-of-the-art M3 EV to set new standards for super sedans alongside combustion power

BMW M has posted the first official teaser of the all-new M3 EV ahead of its launch in early 2028, with the German brand’s performance division claiming it will “set new standards” in the super sedan segment.

The pics, said to be of a test mule named ‘M HP BEV’, show little in common with today’s turbo-petrol M3 seeing as the EV is based on the upcoming Neue Klasse 3 Series that’ll sit on an entirely new platform.

Unsurprisingly the M3 EV flaunts significantly broader wheelarches, different bumpers, bigger wheels and much larger brakes than the BMW Vision Neue Klasse shown at the 2023 Munich motor show.

Sharing the same camouflage as the previously shown quad-motor i4 prototype, the new M3 mule is thought to pack a major evolution of that car’s powertrain.

BMW M has already confirmed the next BMW M3 will continue to be available with the option of a combustion engine, although it’s not known if that car will sit on the current platform since the Neue Klasse underpinnings are for EVs only.

No concrete details of the monstrous electric M3 have been revealed yet but rumours of a more than 746kW (1000hp) power output and advanced torque vectoring have been swirling and look increasingly accurate.

It's thought the M division will continue to release teasers in the coming months in the build-up to the next-gen 2028 BMW M3’s debut, which could include the unveiling of a new concept version as soon as next year.

The first Neue Klasse model to arrive will be the 2025 BMW iX3, followed by the 2026 BMW 3 Series.
