Radford has previewed a final design for its first sports car and confirmed it is being developed in partnership with Lotus under the Project 62 name.
Claimed to be directly inspired by Lotus's Type 62 race car that was created back in 1969, the British coachbuilder has announced it will produce just 62 cars.
Helping Radford develop its Project 62, the small British firm co-owned by former F1 world champion Jenson Button will partner Lotus Engineering.
Confirmed to remain a mid-engine two-seat coupe rather than a stripped-out racer, the Project 62 will feature a luxury interior. That said, thanks to Button's involvement, the small Radford will "remain a driver's car."
“Radford draws upon a strong history of design, including creating the bodywork of the original Ford GT40, one of the most iconic sports cars in history,” said Radford co-owner and TV presenter, Ant Anstead.
“That wealth of design heritage is what informs Radford today. The craftsmanship bestowed upon each build and the level of personalisation available position ‘Project 62’ among the best of the British luxury brands.”
As part of the purchase experience for the Radford Project 62, each owner will be invited to attend a one-day track event hosted by Button.
“For me, a key purpose of Radford is to celebrate iconic automotive moments by bringing them back to life for a new, modern audience,” said Button.
“With the dynamic development of our car already well underway, we are working hard to ensure we do this car justice, and I can’t wait to put it through its paces on the Radford Track before inviting today’s Project 62 owners to come and do the same.”
Radford is expected to release pricing, along with pictures of a late-stage concept, later this year.
