Hyundai’s first concept for its new IONIQ electric vehicle brand has emerged as an interior design study that previews its vision for “dedicated EV in-car customer experiences”.
The IONIQ Concept Cabin has turned up six weeks after Hyundai launched the stand-alone EV brand that will produce three all-new models by 2025 – all of which are expected to be sold in Australia.
The first will be the IONIQ 5 mid-size SUV, which is based on the recent Hyundai 45 concept and is due to launch globally early next year.
The IONIQ 6 sedan will follow in 2022, based on the Prophecy concept shown earlier this year, and the third is the IONIQ 7 large SUV due early 2024.
Developed in collaboration with LG Electronics, the IONIQ Concept Cabin previews the “value-added experiences” that Hyundai plans to offer with IONIQ 5, including a ceiling-mounted 77-inch flexible OLED screen that pumps sound through speakers embedded in the head restraints.
Perhaps with due consideration of the current global COVID-19 pandemic, the concept also has a floor-cleaning robot and overhead UV LED lights to ensure the cabin is kept “clean and disinfected”.
Beyond the tech treats, the IONIQ Concept Cabin shows the interior space Hyundai’s designers are able to work with on the Korean car giant’s E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) architecture that underpins the new IONIQ models.
“The IONIQ Concept Cabin is one of a kind and an unprecedented approach to enhancing customer experience as it can be customised for different needs and lifestyles,” said Hyundai’s global chief marketing officer Wonhong Cho.
“Dedicated EVs will enable us to revolutionise the experience Hyundai delivers to its customers, empowering them to do more in and out of the vehicles.”
