RAM Trucks has indirectly confirmed the recently-revealed 2025 RAM 1500 RHO is only a stand-in flagship for the full-size pick-up range and that an even hotter version is in the works.
The confirmation was made by the US brand’s advertising chief Jeff Summers via a LinkedIn post detailing all the easter eggs hidden in the RHO’s reveal video.
Summers listed 20 specific hidden details of the video, with number nine being the most noteworthy…
“Dirt bikes, with ‘540’ on one for the RHO horsepower, and another bike – which has a number intentionally left blank for the next Ram High HP vehicle with three letters,” he said.
If this isn’t a nod to a RAM 1500 TRX replacement being in the works then we don’t know what is, especially since the RHO and its force-fed straight-six offers the same outputs as other facelifted MY25 RAM 1500 variants and so isn’t a direct successor for the savage supercharged 6.2-litre V8-powered TRX in terms of outputs or outright performance – though it does come close with its 0-60mph (0-97km/h) sprint time.
Indeed, RAM CEO Tim Kuniskis last year hinted that the company’s formidable TRX nameplate was far from extinct, despite the release of the RHO.
“This current chapter in Ram’s high-performance trucks is coming to a close, but it’s not the end of TRX’s story,” he said at the reveal of the TRX Final Edition.
“We’ll have more news to come at a later date.”
There are two or three main powertrain options when it comes to the born-again TRX: an even hotter version of the RHO’s six-cylinder, a hybridised version of the same Hurricane engine or a full battery-electric set-up, which has been teased a couple of times now.
RAM and its Stellantis parent company will likely want to showcase the true capabilities of their new 3.0-litre Hurricane mill and have previously confirmed it is receptive to electrification.
So we expect the facelifted TRX – which would take on the top-shelf supercharged V8-powered Ford F-150 Raptor R, leaving the RHO to fight the standard F-150 Raptor – to come with a V8-eclipsing, electrified turbo-petrol six-cylinder hybrid system.
Chances are the new RAM 1500 apex predator will debut sometime next year as a model year 2026 vehicle. Until then, we understand there are less than 30 examples of the current TRX still available – in addition to 130 units of the new $250K Final Edition. RAM Trucks Australia this week announced the delivery of its 30,000th vehicle since 2014, comfortably making it the biggest producer of full-size pick-up trucks in the country.
