The all-new RAM Dakota one-tonne ute could look like this computer-generated creation when it’s revealed in the next couple of years.
The American brand’s mid-size 4x4 dual-cab is tipped to break cover in 2023 ahead of an expected launch for the 2024 model year, and this unofficial RAM Dakota penned by KDesign AG – dubbed the RAM 1200 – shows how the new ute’s exterior design could evolve.
Complete with bonnet vents and a bluff front-end inspired by the latest RAM 1500, this particular render envisions a high-performance RAM Dakota TRX model, which would take aim at the likes of the Ford Ranger Raptor, Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior and upcoming Toyota GR HiLux.
The RAM Dakota has not been officially confirmed by the car-maker, but sources both in Australia and overseas have previously told carsales that RAM’s long-awaited rival for the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and Chevrolet Colorado is in development.
It’s also odds-on to come to Australia, either ex-factory or via a supported right-hand drive conversion program that’s currently in place for full-size RAM pick-up trucks.
In 2018, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (now part of the Stellantis conglomerate) outlined a “metric one-tonne pick-up” at an investor conference, and earlier this year Stellantis’ North American design chief Ralph Gilles talked up “a new mid-size truck”.
There are several powertrain options at RAM’s disposal, including plug-in hybrid and battery-electric, but count on conventional petrol and diesel engines as well.
