Land Rover has announced that its customers will soon be able to buy factory-restored classic Range Rovers from their local dealer.
The new service, called Range Rover Reborn, is said to restore the original British SUV to such a high standard that Land Rover describes them as 'brand new'.
To prove it, Land Rover Classic has unveiled the first car of a batch of 10 original three-doors that it has restored.
Painted in Bahama Gold and fitted with a tan cloth and leather interior, the first car offered for sale is claimed to have been restored to the way it came out the factory.
Under the bonnet, Land Rover technicians resisted the temptation to fit more modern mechanicals. That's why the three-door comes with its correct carb-fed 3.5-litre V8 that produces a modest 97kW/251Nm.
The restored Range Rover should remain a formidable off-roader. Despite its age, the three-door comes with a four-speed manual gearbox that has low ratio ‘box and a lockable centre differential to help it claw out of the stickiest situations.
As well as restoring, Land Rover Classic also offers to help its customers source an original car for full restoration.
Once found, the complete restoration is said to be carried out to factory specification using only Land Rover Classic parts.
Pricing for an original 1970 Range Rover Reborn starts from £135,000 ($A220,000).
