Range Rover Vogue update

Boasting a high-tech repetoire of advanced systems, the new 2010 model Range Rover Vogue has arrived in Oz

Land Rover has launched its new 2010 model year Range Rover Vogue in Australia, priced from $155,000 for the turbodiesel V8 (not including statutory or delivery charges).

One of the most technologically advanced luxury SUVs in its class, the revised Range Rover Vogue boasts a surround camera system that uses five digital cameras to relay "near" 360-degree views to the driver to improve both urban and off-road manoeuvres.

Other advanced features of the new Range Rover Vogue include radar-based adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam assist, blind spot monitoring and a patented reverse "Tow Assist" function.

"The Range Rover Vogue 10MY is a considerable step forward for what is already regarded as the one of the world's most complete luxury vehicles," said Roger Jory, Land Rover Austraila's General Manager.

Land Rover is also claiming a world first with its dual view touch screen. Making use of what it calls "Parallax Barrier technology", the system lets the driver and front-seat passenger view two different images simultaneously. In this way the driver can view navigation or car information while the passenger watches a DVD documentary, for example.

Another high-tech feature is the fully digitised instrument cluster. A "fully configurable" 12-inch TFT screen replaces traditional dials with graphical overlays.

Land Rover has also effected some adjustments to the powertrain of the Range Rover Vogue 10MY -- adjustments which improve economy and performance in the petrol models via direct-injection fuel delivery.

"New engines deliver formidable power, efficiency and customary Range Rover Vogue refinement, and new technologies, such as the dual view screen, deliver a world first," added Jory.

"Like its legendary predecessors, the Range Rover Vogue 10MY continues to set the pace," said Roger Jory.

The newly developed Adaptive Dynamics technologies ensure improved ride quality on the road in combination with strong off-road ability, and the new petrol engines Jory spoke of deliver more power, while using less fuel and emitting lower levels of carbon dioxide.

Land Rover's 3.6-litre 200kW/640Nm turbodiesel V8 unit remains unchanged, with claimed fuel use of 11.1L/100km, but the 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated and supercharged petrol V8s have been thoroughly revised.

The range-topping supercharged 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine pumps out a ground-shaking 375kW/625Nm (a 29 per cent increase in power), while a claimed fuel consumption of 14.9L/100km represents a more than seven per cent reduction in fuel use.

Developing 276kW/510Nm, the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine churns out more power and torque than its predecessor, while using almost seven per cent less fuel with a claimed fuel consumption figure of 14.0L/100km.

"Both versions of the V8 return class leading levels of power and torque combined with reduced fuel consumption and emissions -- the supercharged 5.0-litre engine is one of the most fuel efficient in its class," said Malcolm Sandford, the Chief Engineer (Engine Group) at Land Rover.

"As well as stunning top-end performance, they also deliver the low-end flexibility essential for real-world driving," added Sandford.

All models are equipped with ZF six-speed automatic gearboxes, although the petrol models get the slightly newer ZF HP28 transmission, while the oilers get the ZF HP26 unit.

Subtle changes to the Range Rover Vogue's exterior design have been implemented, such as new headlights with LED lamp technology.

There's also a more upright mesh grille, black and silver Land Rover badges (in lieu of green and silver design) and a revised front fascia with repositioned fog lights. LED side indicators with a triple stripe design also highlight the 2010 Vogue.

In total, Land Rover is offering five models: three turbodiesel V8s and two petrol models, priced between $155,000 and $229,500 (not including statutory and delivery charges).

TDV8: $155,000
TDV8 Luxury: $179,500
TDV8 Autobiography: $208,900

5.0 V8: $158,000
5.0 V8 Supercharged Autobiograhpy: $229,500
