Land Rover confirms plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport as part of MY18 range due in April

Jaguar Land Rover has revealed its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) – the Range Rover Sport P400e, which will go on sale in Australia as part of an updated MY18 range due on sale here next April.

The 2018 Range Rover Sport P400e replaces the existing Rangie Sport hybrid, which is priced at the top of the line-up at $187,900 plus on-road costs.

No pricing has been announced yet, but the plug-in Rangie Sport brings significant advances by combining a 221kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with an 85kW electric motor.

Combined outputs of 297kW/640Nm — delivered via a permanent four-wheel drive system — accelerates the Rangie Sport to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds on its way to a 220km/h top speed.

Meantime, combined NEDC fuel consumption and emissions are listed at just 2.8L/100km and 64g/km respectively, there’s an all-electric driving range of 51km and a fast-charging time of two hours 45 minutes.

The PHEV will be available alongside a range of Ingenium four-cylinder, V6 and V8 petrol and diesel engines in the MY18 Rangie Sport line-up, priced from $95,100 plus ORCs (for the entry-level SD4 S.

Topping the range will be the MY18 Range Rover Sport SVR, delivering 423kW, 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds and increased use of carbon-fibre construction, which JLR says makes it more dramatic, faster and more agile than before.

Jaguar Land Rover Australia managing director Matthew Wiesner said the Rangie Sport PHEV was part of JLR’s commitment to electrify every model in its range by 2020.

“As one of Australia’s best-selling premium luxury SUVs, we expect that the new technology and upgrades to the 2018 Range Rover Sport will be of great appeal to our customers,” he said.

“For the first time Australian customers will experience zero-emission near-silent on and off-road luxury without compromising any off-road capability.

“The pace of change is exhilarating and the 2018 Range Rover Sport is our first commitment towards our 2020 commitment.”
