Australia's pre-eminent classic car event for high-end, vintage, rare, and exotic motor vehicles, Motorclassica, returns to Melbourne's historic Royal Exhibition Building October 25 to 27.
This year's high-brow event will celebrate several milestones, including 50 years of Lamborghini, 100 years of Aston Martin and Bertone, 60 years of Chevrolet Corvette and 110 year of Harley-Davidson.
Another drawcard for the 2013 Motorclassica will be what event organisers are calling "the most impressive collector car auction ever held in Australia".
Headlining the auction of just 30 "hand-selected collectible cars" will be the century-old 1913 Nazzaro Tipo 2, one of just three vehicles left in the world. It's expected to fetch between $125,000 and $175,000, is in excellent running condition, and the car's sister vehicle was raced by Felice Nazzaro himself in the 1913 Targa Florio. He ended up winning the race.
Motorclassica Event Director Paul Mathers said the auction is a "...key component of the annual Motorclassica event but this year we have stepped it up, limiting the consignments to just 30 significant and desirable cars, with the 1913 Nazzaro an early highlight".
The auction will presided by one of Australia's oldest auction houses, Theodore Bruce and, as Mathers explains, it will be an exclusive bidder-only affair over cocktails on the evening of October 26.
"To create exclusivity for our collectors and enthusiasts, the Motorclassica Auction has moved to the Saturday night and will be held as a cocktail party, open only to registered bidders," he said.
Auctioneering house Theodore Bruce's automotive specialist James Nicholls said the "list of consigned automobiles is shaping up very nicely" several months ahead of Motorclassica in late October.
"We will have a fantastic collection of cars going under the hammer, and we have the expertise and experience to make the auction a highlight of what is now the best motoring event in the southern hemisphere.
"James Badgery will be our lead auctioneer on the night, and will bring a great sense of occasion to what will be a very significant automobile auction," noted Nicholls.
Held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton Gardens just north of Melbourne's CBD, Motorclassica will be host to more than 150 cars inside and at least another 200 outside the 19th century building.
The event only shows cars of distinction and though it doesn't have the profile of say Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California, the event has gone from strength to strength each year, and 2013 looks to keep up the momentum.
As well as the cars on show, Motorclassica will also feature a range of automotive memorabilia such as models, miscellaneous collectibles and books.
The event runs through October 25 to 27 and bidders interested in the auction can register at Motorclassica.com.au or TheodoreBruceAuctions.com.au.
Ticket prices are $30 for adults, $20 for children (5 to 15 years), $80 for families and $250 for a VIP 3-Day Pass, which includes VIP welcome party.
