Reborn Honda S2000 imagined

Digital creators take things into their own hands and mock up their dream sports car

The Honda S2000 is one of the most iconic Japanese sports cars ever built and fans have been waiting in droves for a follow-up to the brand’s famous Porsche Boxster rival.

Produced between 1999 and 2009, the S2000 was an immediate hit with its fizzy four-cylinder VTEC engines, sharp handling, rear-drive dynamics and a folding fabric roof, endearing it as something of a Mazda MX-5 with attitude.

A limited-slip differential came standard on all models along with a six-speed manual transmission while the rev-happy 2.0-litre – 2.2L in some markets – engine was good for up to 184kW/218Nm, yielding 0-100km/h in less than seven seconds thanks to a low kerb weight.

There were hints back in 2023 a new S2000 could be on the way but since then there’s been nothing more than a few whines and disparate sighs from patiently waiting fans as Honda prepares to relaunch the front-drive Prelude coupe.

Well now Turbo Treasury has taken things into its own hands and used AI to generate its take on the long-overdue second-gen S2000, and we’d be in full support of Honda ditching the third-generation NSX supercar to make this instead.

Donning the familiar rectangular motif front end but with a bit more of a frown and a new Civic Type R-style bonnet, the second-gen S2000 looks a whole lot more aggressive than its predecessor and that theme continues down the flanks where we find a swooping coupe silhouette and roofline, a huge, fixed rear wing and an NSX-style booty.

The quad exhaust outlets add even more aggression to the ensemble and hint at some mighty performance credentials.

Under the bonnet is a twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine pushing out a healthy 374kW, all of which is shipped to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

The digital creators haven’t made any hypothetical performance claims but have urged Honda to get a wriggle on and give the people what they want.

“Giddy up Honda, get this in the oven.”
