Recall wrap: 10,000 Audis with repeat gearbox fault

And 400-plus diesel RAM 1500 trucks could pose a fire risk

Audi has recalled more than 10,000 cars fitted with seven-speed dual-clutch gearboxes for the second time, saying models previously inspected will need to be re-inspected.

A total of 10,373 vehicles are affected in the recall, including the Audi A1 (2011-2016), A3 (2008-2016) and TT (2012-2016) – check for your VIN here.

The first recall was announced on October 20, 2019, when the automatic transmission in those models was thought to have a potential production fault that could lead a crack in the pressure accumulator, causing a loss of oil and pressure and resulting in power loss or gearbox failure.

The German car-maker says it will contact all known owners to have their vehicles re-inspected and repaired where required, and reiterates that even customers that had their vehicles inspected in the previous recall will need to do so again.

In a similar recall this week, diesel-powered RAM 1500 pick-ups built between 2014 and 2019 are also subject to a potential manufacturing fault that could cause their EGR cooler to crack, in turn leaking coolant into the intake manifold and creating a fire risk.

RAM Trucks Australia will contact owners of the 438 affected utes to organise free inspection and repair.
