Volkswagen Australia has issued a recall notice for close to 20,000 examples of the Volkswagen Amarok, due to safety concerns over the ute’s spare wheel.
The recall affects a total of 19,936 Volkswagen Amarok models, built from 2015 to 2018 and sold from August 1, 2016 to March 1, 2019.
Volkswagen says the cable for the spare wheel winch can be weakened and snap when used under certain conditions – such as extreme dirt or dust exposure – meaning it may eventually only be secured by a secondary strap.
If the spare wheel detaches, the recall notice makes it clear that it may result in an accident and injury or death to other road users.
Volkswagen will contact affected owners to organise a free inspection and repair. In the meantime, you can click here for a VIN list to see if your Amarok is affected by this recall.
In a separate recall, the German car-maker is calling back 32 examples of the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace .
Volkswagen says there could be a missing bolt on the longitudinal adjustment mechanism of the driver’s seat in MY21 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace models.
The missing bolt may reduce the seat’s restraint capability in the event of an accident, according to Volkswagen.
The company will contact affected owners to have the issue rectified, free of charge.
