Recall wrap: Almost 19,000 Ford Mustangs recalled

Potentially dodgy wiring harness for Blue Oval pony car and drive shaft problems for Mercedes-Benz G 300

Ford has issued a product safety recall notice for 18,840 examples of the Ford Mustang produced between 2014 and 2017 to rectify a potentially defective rear boot lid wiring harness.

In affected vehicles, the problem could cause intermittent operation of the reversing camera, loss of satellite radio reception and failure of both the boot lamp and boot lid release.

“If the rear-view camera display does not continually display the rear-view image whilst reversing the vehicle, it could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to any persons located behind the vehicle,” said Ford in its recall notice.

Ford says it will contact affected owners in writing to request they make an appointment at their preferred Ford dealership for inspection and repair of the luggage compartment lid wiring harness, free of charge.

Meantime today, 117 examples of the previous-generation Mercedes-Benz G 300 sold between 2013 and 2018 have come in for a safety recall to address the potential for the drive shaft bearing to seize.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the oil supply to the rear axle drive shaft bearing may not meet specification. As a result, the bearing may overheat and seize causing a loss of motive power whilst driving and/or an oil leak from the rear axle,” said Mercedes-Benz in its recall notice.

“A loss of motive power and/or an oil leak onto the road could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific says owners of affected vehicles can contact their most convenient Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the vehicle repaired, free of charge.
