Recall wrap: BMW recalls 11 new models

Plus Honda Accord Hybrid, Porsche Cayenne, Genesis G80 and GV80 and Mercedes models all called back

BMW Australia has announced a nationwide recall for 11 of its latest models across coupe, sedan, convertible and SUV lines due to a manufacturing fault identified with the braking system.

A total of 49 high-performance and luxury vehicles are affected by the recall, including the BMW M8 coupe (F92), M8 sedan (F93), X5 M (F95), X5 (G05), X6 (G06), X7 (G07), 7 Series sedan (G11), 8 Series convertible (G14), 8 Series coupe (G15), M3 sedan (G80) and M4 coupe (G82).

BMW says that due to a manufacturing fault in the hydraulic unit brake booster, any driver who initiates “panic braking” could encounter a loss of brake power assistance and anti-lock braking system (ABS) effectiveness “without prior warning”.

“Although the electronic brake-force distribution function is maintained, the loss the ABS may result in reduced braking performance,” BMW said in the recall notice.

This could “increase the risk of an accident and injury to vehicle occupants or other road users, or death in the event of a serious accident”.

The Bavarian auto-maker will contact affected owners to arrange an inspection and repair, but in the meantime consumers can click here to go to the BMW Group Australia website and find out if their vehicle has an outstanding ‘technical action’ or safety recall by using their VIN or chassis number.

Elsewhere, Porsche Cars Australia has recalled 92 examples of its 2021-built Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe due to the potential for the clamping nuts on the rear-axle trailing arm breaking over the service life of the vehicle, as they may not have been manufactured to specification.

Porsche says a broken clamping nut can result in increased movement between the trailing arm and wheel carrier. “As a result, vehicle handling may be diminished,” the car-maker said.

Porsche will contact affected owners to arrange free repairs when parts become available in mid-June. Click here to see if your vehicle is affected by this recall.

Audi Australia has also issued a recall for multiple models, including 2020-built examples of the Audi A6 and A7, with a total of 57 vehicles affected.

A manufacturing fault with the vehicle’s dash panel means the front passenger airbag may not fully inflate in the event of an accident.

“In the event of, and accident resulting in, the front passenger airbag being activated, the airbag may not fully inflate and/or plastic fragments may propel through the airbag cushion towards vehicle occupants,” Audi said.

The German car-maker will contact affected owners, but you can find a list of relevant VINs here.

Meanwhile, 89 examples of the Honda Accord Hybrid (MY2019-2021) are also being called back over concerns surrounding its petrol-electric system.

Honda says in cold ambient temperatures, the DC-DC converter may shut down and prevent the 12-volt battery from recharging, resulting in a loss of drive power if the vehicle continues to be driven.

“Warning lights in the instrument cluster will illuminate and warning message will also appear,” the company said.

Honda Australia is requesting affected owners – including those with a VIN listed here – contact their local Honda dealership to organise a free inspection and repair.

Meanwhile, Hyundai has recalled a total of 11 Genesis vehicles, namely four Genesis G80 sedans (RG3) and seven GV80 SUVs (JX1), all with 2021 build dates and only those powered by the 2.5T GDI four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine.

Genesis Motor Australia says the fuel delivery pipes on the 2.5-litre engine may be defective and could leak fuel, which creates a fire risk when the engine is hot.

The South Korean luxury brand says it has contacted owners of affected vehicles.

In other news, Mercedes-Benz Australia is calling back several models for minor issues.

Incorrect sparks plugs could be fitted to seven 2020-built Mercedes-AMG A 45 S and CLA 45 S models, while the dashboard of eight GLE SUVs may not have been bonded together correctly.

A handful of Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLC SUVs could have a software problem that renders the emergency call function inactive.
