Recall wrap: BMW to replace 30,000 Takata airbags in E46 3 Series

And nearly 5000 Hyundai Konas need front brake hydraulic line checked

Owners of the BMW 3 Series from 1999 to 2006 are being contacted by the importer to have the car's passenger-side Takata airbag replaced. This is the second such recall for the E46 generation of 3 Series, the previous occasion involving the replacement of the original 'Alpha' airbags with safer 'Beta' airbags.

Nearly 30,000 vehicles sold between January 1, 1999 and December 31, 2006 are subject to this latest recall campaign. BMW recommends owners contact the nearest dealership to arrange for a replacement airbag. Vehicle owners can use a VIN lookup tool on the website or contact BMW by phone to determine whether their vehicle is one of those subject to the recall.

Hyundai has issued a recall notice for the Kona SUV, citing an improperly fitted front brake line that may make contact with the vehicle's exhaust system. In that event, the importer says, the hydraulic line may be damaged after prolonged contact, with braking performance affected as a consequence.

Nearly 5000 vehicles sold between April 20, 2018 and September 11, 2018 are affected and owners are advised to take the vehicle to the nearest Hyundai dealer for the fault to be rectified. Further information is available from Hyundai Customer Care on 1800 186 306.

Peugeot is recalling the 4008 SUV sold between November 1, 2012 and January 30, 2015 for two separate faults, both related to the parking brake. For the 2342 affected vehicles, the actuating spindle on the rear calipers may have corroded. In the longer term the effectiveness of the parking brake may diminish as a consequence. The other fault pertains to an internal play compensator mechanism in the rear brake calipers. Both faults can be fixed by replacing the rear brake calipers. The importer is contacting all vehicle owners by mail to recommend owners take the vehicle to the nearest Peugeot dealer to have the calipers replaced. For further information, owners may contact Peugeot customer service by phoning 1300 304 077.

The potential for a fuel line leak has prompted Volvo to issue a recall notice for diesel variants of S60, V60, V40, V40 Cross Country and XC90. According to the importer, cracking may occur, leading to fuel leaking from the hose. Of the 1600 vehicles affected, over 1000 are the XC90 SUV. All vehicles are MY2015 and MY2016 models. Volvo recommends owners contact the nearest dealer to have the fault rectified.

The Tesla Model S is being recalled for Takata airbag replacement. Nearly 1300 vehicles sold between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2016 are subject to the recall, which applies to (model year) MY2014-2016 vehicles. Owners should contact the nearest servicing agent to have the airbag replaced. Further information is available from Tesla's website and affected vehicles can be checked using a VIN lookup tool or by phoning Tesla on 1800 646 952.

Jaguar Land Rover Australia is contacting nearly 2600 owners of the Jaguar XE, XF and F-PACE, and a further 1100 owners of the the Land Rover Discovery Sport for (model year) MY2017 to replace the driver's side Takata airbag. Vehicle owners are advised to contact the nearest servicing dealer to have the airbag replaced. A VIN lookup tool is available to confirm that the vehicle is actually subject to the recall, and further information is available by phoning JLR Australia on 1800 312 828.

An intermittent software fault has prompted Porsche to issue a recall for the Panamera sold in Australia between April 4, 2016 and December 6, 2018. The fault may lead to power steering outages affecting 252 vehicles. As a short-term fix, owners can switch off the ignition and then restart the car. Porsche is contacting owners by mail, to recommend they take the Panamera to the nearest Porsche dealer to have the fault fixed.

Toyota is recalling the Lexus IS250C and IS-F from (model year) MY2014 for replacement of the Takata airbag for the front passenger. This recall notice is an extension of the existing campaign. Owners of the 55 additional vehicles – 42 of the convertible and 13 of the IS-F – are asked to contact the nearest servicing dealer to have the airbag replaced. A VIN lookup tool is accessible from the local Lexus website and further information may be obtained through the Lexus Customer Assistance Centre on 1800 023 009.

American Special Vehicles is recalling 118 examples of the RAM 1500 truck for the 2018 model year, to rectify a parking brake fault. A sheath for the cable may slip through the end fitting, rendering actuation difficult. The vehicles affected were sold in Australia between June 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. ASV is contacting owners by mail to request they arrange inspection and repair at the nearest servicing dealership. Further information is available by phoning the company on 1800 649 607.

The Bentley Mulsanne and Mulsanne Speed sold in Australia between November 19, 2012 and April 15, 2018, are being recalled for faulty anchorage points for the rear-seat belt buckles. According to the manufacturer, the wrong grade of material was used during production of these vehicles and the belt buckles may detach from the body if both centre and outboard seat positions are occupied. The 27 vehicle owners are advised to contact the brand's Sydney dealer on 02 8046 6202 to arrange repair.
