Recall wrap: Citroen joins Takata debacle

Over 3000 vehicles fitted with defective airbags, and Mazda recalls CX-5 and CX-8 that won't restart

Local Citroen distributor Inchcape has issued a recall notice for vehicles sold in Australia between September 1, 2009 and January 29, 2016.

Nearly 3300 vehicles are being recalled for Takata airbags – mostly driver's side units, but with C3 and DS3 models also recalled for their passenger-side airbags.

The vehicles affected are the C3 for model years 2009 to 2014, the C4 for 2010 to 2015, DS3 for 2009 to 2016 and both the DS4 and DS5 for 2011 to 2015.

Inchcape recommends owners of the vehicles subject to the notice contact the nearest authorised servicing dealer to arrange replacement of one or both airbags. Vehicle owners may check whether their vehicle is affected using a VIN look-up tool on the Citroen Australia website.

Mazda has also issued recall notices for the CX-5 and CX-8, due to a problem with the engine restarting immediately after it has been stopped. In both cases the 131 vehicles affected are diesels and were sold between April 24, 2018 and May 28, 2018. The company is contacting vehicle owners to arrange for a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) recalibration at the nearest servicing dealer.

Honda has updated its Takata recall program for beta passenger airbags in:
Accord (20,309 vehicles) for model years 2008 to 2011,
Jazz (42,291 vehicles) for model years 2004 to 2009,
Accord Euro (47,161 vehicles) for the same years,
CR-V (41,088 vehicles) for 2002 to 2009,
Civic (80,447 vehicles) for 2004 to 2011,
City (1013 vehicles) for 2009.

Additionally, Honda has also extended the Takata recall campaign for beta airbags on the driver's side for MY2005 to 2006 Jazz (22,223 vehicles) and MY2007 CR-V (783 vehicles affected).

Over 254,000 vehicles are subject to this extension of the recall program.

Finally, Audi has recalled three additional examples of Q5, built between March and May 2018 for reduced braking effectiveness, due to improperly coated rear brake pistons.
