Hyundai Australia has issued a nationwide safety recall notice for more than 2500 examples of the popular Hyundai Tucson mid-size SUV due to a potential fire risk.
A total of 2540 previous-generation (TL-series) Tucson vehicles are affected by the recall, all built between 2017 and 2018 and powered by the South Korean car-maker’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine.
Petrol-powered Tucson models built in the same period are not affected, but it is the second major recall for the TL Tucson after almost 95,000 MY15-21 vehicles were recalled in February 2021 due to an ABS-induced potential fire hazard.
In its latest recall, Hyundai says the heater core in affected models is to blame. A faulty electrical connection caused by a manufacturing fault may cause it to overheat, resulting in a vehicle fire.
“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property,” said Hyundai.
Hyundai will contact affected owners to have the components in question inspected and rectified free of charge.

Meanwhile, Ford Australia is recalling a total of 2303 Mustang sports cars that could be riddled with electrical faults.
Only vehicles built between 2018 and 2020 are affected, but Ford says a manufacturing fault could cause the rear-view camera display, reversing lamps and various driver-assist features to not operate as intended.
“The driver will receive warning signals in the instrument cluster,” said the recall notice.

Mercedes-Benz is calling back 326 examples of its A-Class compact car this month due to a manufacturing fault that could affect the transmission.
Affected vehicles include those manufactured in 2019, with Benz saying the volume of transmission oil in vehicles may be too high or too low.
“Incorrect levels of transmission oil could result in the vehicle stalling. If the oil level is too high, oil may leak and cause a fire. These hazards increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Mercedes-Benz has also recalled 13 examples of its MY21-built GLB medium SUV due to headlight concerns.
The German car-maker says the sensor connection to the rear axle may not meet manufacturing specifications.
“As a result, the vehicle headlamps may not operate as intended. The range of control of the headlamps may calibrate in the opposite direction when the rear bench seat, trunk, or third seat row is in use,” said Merc in its recall notice.

In other recall news, Volkswagen is calling back 331 examples of its MY21 Polo city-car because the rear spoiler could fall off.
“Due to a manufacturing issue, the roof spoiler may not have been bonded correctly and could become loose and detach from the vehicle,” said VW’s recall notice.
