The Genesis G80 and its predecessor, the Hyundai Genesis, are being recalled due to the same fire risk that has seen more than 100,000 Australians urged to bring their Hyundai and Kia cars back into dealerships to be repaired.
Owners of Genesis G80 models (124 vehicles) sold in 2018 and Hyundai Genesis (1203 vehicles) sold between 2015 to 2017 are being advised to park their cars outdoors and avoid proximity to flammable materials, due to faulty circuitry that could result in fire.
According to the recall notices supplied to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the recalls concern a “manufacturing error” which in some cases can create a short circuit in the vehicle’s anti-lock braking system (ABS) circuitry “when exposed to moisture”.

In a worst-case scenario, this can lead to the “risk of a fire, even when the vehicle is turned off, as the circuit is constantly powered”.
“This could increase the risk of an accident, serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property,” Hyundai said in the recall notice.
Genesis G80 and Hyundai Genesis owners can check if their vehicle is affected here and here respectively, and are being urged to call their nearest dealership to organise a free repair, including the fitment of a relay kit on the circuit board.

The same fire risk issue affects around 56,000 examples of the Kia Sportage and more than 93,000 Hyundai Tucson mid-size SUVs on the road in Australia, which were recalled earlier this year.
