More than 5200 new Hyundai i30 Sedans are being recalled due to fix a potentially lethal manufacturing fault in the seatbelt pre-tensioner inflator, which according to Hyundai may fracture when deployed in a collision and propel metal fragments towards the vehicle occupants.
The Korean brand has identified 5211 affected vehicles spanning the 2020-2022 model years across all six trim levels, including the halo N Premium and limited-run N-Line Special Edition.
The fault itself stems from a manufacturing issue – and will likely remind a lot of people of the recent Takata airbag saga – which is why Hyundai has requested owners present their cars at an authorised dealership to have the component inspected and “rectified” free of charge.
Affected owners will be contacted in writing.

Hyundai isn’t the only manufacturer announcing new recalls, however; Nissan is also among them and has recalled several thousand (2942) 2021 Nissan Navaras to rectify an issue not with the vehicle, but rather its handbook.
According to Nissan Australia, incorrect front and rear covers were used for the printing of the vehicle’s owner’s manuals and could contain wrong and irrelevant information about the cars in question.
“The owner’s manual may contain incorrect information relating to the vehicle’s jacking points,” the brand said.
“A misuse of a jack up point may increase the risk of an accident causing injury to vehicle users.”
Affected customers are encouraged to visit their local dealership to receive a replacement manual.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is another brand with a fresh recall action, this time for 349 Land Rover Defender 90s, 110s and 130s produced between 2010 and 2012, from which the wheel hub and suspension assemblies might collapse or even detach.
The fault has been traced to a manufacturing issue and could predictably cause a loss of steering and control, thereby increasing “the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users”.
As with the recalls above, owners of the affected vehicles are being contacted and urged to present their car for a free inspection or repair at an approved JLR repairer.

Five (combined) examples of BMW’s latest battery-electric models, the 2022 BMW iX and 2021 BMW i4, are meanwhile being recalled to try and prevent their batteries short-circuiting and sparking a potential vehicle fire.
The premium German brand has decreed the few affected owners will be contacted by either itself or a dealer to “to schedule an appointment to have the work carried out free of charge”.
