A nationwide recall is underway for more than 2500 examples of the Mazda6 MPS sports sedan and Mazda RX-8 coupe.
Affected model years span from 2005 to 2012, specifically impacting the flagship all-wheel drive Mazda6 MPS (GG) and all versions of the RX-8 coupe.
The Japanese manufacturer says improper installation of the fuel pump retaining rings means they could crack and leak fuel.
For RX-8 owners, Mazda says there’s an additional risk of damage due to heat exposure from the engine and exhaust pipe, with either model susceptible to an underbody fire.
Affected owners will be notified by the brand and asked to bring their vehicle in for free repairs.

Seven examples of the MY21 Toyota Prius have been recalled, with the Japanese car-maker saying a software malfunction could shut down the vehicle while in motion.
“Due to a software fault in the vehicle’s electronic control unit (ECU), a loss of motive power may occur while driving,” said Toyota in the recall notice.
“If this should happen, warning lights would illuminate and the vehicle’s hybrid system would shut down.”
Models affected include both the base-model Prius and the Prius i-TECH flagship, with affected vehicles required to return to a Toyota dealership for free reprogramming of the ECU.

Volvo is calling back a total of 1469 examples of the Volvo S60 and S80 due to a fault with the driver’s airbag inflator.
The affected S60 models were built from 2004-2009, and the S80 models from 2004-2005.
According to the Swedish manufacturer, the airbag inflator may rupture during deployment, causing metal fragments to propel through the airbag cushion towards vehicle occupants and potentially causing injury or death.
