Recall wrap: Mitsubishi ASX wipers at risk

Also, Jaguar's previous-generation XF could leak fuel and Renault's Trafic rear axle may start to shimmy

Mitsubishi is recalling just over 25,000 units of the ASX small SUV built between June 2010 and December 2013 for a problem that could affect the on-going operation of the vehicle's windscreen wipers.

According to the company, "the structure of the front deck of the vehicle allows water intrusion onto the windshield wiper motor, which is drawn into the motor's breather hole as it cools down after use."

This water could pool inside the wiper motor leading to rusting and the motor seizing. In turn, the wipers will cease to operate.

Mitsubishi is awaiting the arrival of parts to fix the problem and will contact vehicle owners by mail to attend an authorised dealer to have the issue rectified and the wiper motor replaced, if necessary.

Jaguar Land Rover Australia is recalling its previous generation (X250) of the XF sedan for a fuel pipe assembly under the floor of the car. Due to inadequate space between the pipes and the floor the pipes can chafe and consequently leak fuel.

JLR Australia advises that 642 vehicles are affected, built between May 1, 2013 and June 15, 2015. The VIN range is SAJAA05M7DPS92080 to SAJWA0FS7FPU88784.

Owners will be contacted and asked to arrange an inspection and repair of the vehicle at their nearest authorised JLR dealer.

Renault Australia is recalling its Trafic III van, for a loose Panhard Rod locating the vehicle's rear axle. The importer advises that a bolt may not have been tightened sufficiently during the manufacturing process. Symptoms include "abnormal noise and tyre friction inside the wheel arch" due to inadequate lateral location of the axle. The vehicle may suffer "unstable road holding".

Owners of the 1472 vehicles affected, with a VIN in the range from VF11FL112E0709587 to VF11FL118G0733943, are asked to contact a Renault dealer to have the affected vehicle inspected and repaired, where necessary.
