Suzuki is recalling 21,610 vehicles nationally to rectify a potentially faulty valve between the engine and the vacuum assist brake booster that could impact the braking performance of the affected cars.
The models in question are the Suzuki Swift and Swift Sport (2017-2021), Suzuki Baleno (2016-2017), Suzuki S-Cross (2017-2022) and Suzuki Vitara (2016-2022) – basically the Japanese small-car brand’s entire portfolio besides the pint-sized Suzuki Ignis and rugged Suzuki Jimny.
According to Suzuki, the aforementioned valve may swell under certain conditions and cause an overly firm brake pedal action, requiring more effort than usual to stop.
Suzuki is quick to point out the braking system will remain functional, albeit with extra driver input.
“If the braking system does not operate as intended, it could increase the risk of a crash resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users,” said the Susuki recall notice.
“Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Suzuki Australia when parts become available and asked to make an appointment to have the work carried out, free of charge.”
A little over 18,000 of the affected vehicles are being recalled by Suzuki Australia, while the remaining 3500 units are under the jurisdiction of Suzuki Auto Co in Queensland and northern NSW.

Mercedes-Benz GT, CLS and E-Class
Meantime, the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car and Mercedes-Benz CLS and E-Class sedans have been recalled due to the potential of a vehicle fire caused by a faulty transmission wiring harness.
A total of 680 vehicles produced between 2018 and 2022 are affected, the owners of which are advised to contact their nearest Mercedes-Benz dealership to arrange rectification work ASAP.
“Due to a manufacturing defect the transmission wiring harness may be damaged. The damage can allow moisture into the wiring harness, which may cause a short circuit resulting in a vehicle fire,” said the Mercedes-Benz recall notice.
“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders, and/or damage to property.”
