Recall wrap: New RAM 1500 strikes steering problem

MY22 DT-series versions of popular US pick-up recalled, along with Kia Cerato and multiple Volvo cars

The company behind the local importation and conversion of RAM pick-up trucks in Australia, American Special Vehicles, has announced a safety recall for 723 examples of the new-generation 2022 RAM 1500.

The vehicle importer cites a manufacturing defect which could cause the power steering software in MY22-built examples of the new DT-series American pick-up to not operate correctly, potentially resulting in a loss of steering control.

“A loss of steering control could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” the company said in the recall notice.

Owners of affected vehicles can contact their nearest authorised RAM dealer to have the repair work carried out free of charge.

Kia Australia has launched a nationwide recall for almost 1700 examples of its popular Kia Cerato small car, due to potentially incorrect safety information.

A total of 1694 Kia Cerato models – all built in 2022 (model code BD) – could have incorrect safety information and instructions affixed to the vehicle jack, which could result in inappropriate use of the device.

Kia says if used incorrectly, the raised vehicle may fall, increasing the risk of serious injury or death to anyone under or near the vehicle.

Specifically, the supplied jack may not be compliant with the mandatory standard for vehicle jacks: AS/NZS 2693:2007.

The correct label will be provided to affected customers, free of charge, after scheduling an appointment with their local Kia dealership.

Volvo XC60

More vehicles have been added to a recall notice first published by Volvo back in August 2020 that affected more than 1400 vehicles, with another 376 examples of the Volvo S60, V60, XC60 and V40 being called back over the same safety concern.

According to the Swedish car-maker, air may become trapped in the cooling system of affected vehicles after the cooling system is refilled.

This could result in insufficient cooling of the engine components, which may result in damage to engine components and/or cause an engine bay fire.
