Volkswagen Australia has issued a product safety recall notice for 1228 examples of the latest (MY19-22) Volkswagen Golf to check whether the radiator is attached properly and, if not, rectify it.
The fault itself is obviously a manufacturing issue and could result in the radiator moving about within the engine bay, potentially resulting in a coolant leak that in turn could lead to a cooked engine if it’s not detected early enough.
Volkswagen says a loss of coolant “will be indicated by visual and audible warnings” on the instrument cluster and can cause the engine to overheat and potentially lose power or fail, thereby upping the chances of collision.
Any collision can pose serious risks to both vehicle occupants and other road users.
Affected owners have been asked to contact their preferred Volkswagen dealer to schedule an appointment for inspection and, if necessary, subsequent repair – check the VIN list below to see if your vehicle is involved.
