Recall wrap: RAM 1500, 2500 and 3500 hit by software glitch

Plus: JLR Australia issues multiple recalls covering various Land Rover and Range Rover models

American Special Vehicles has issued a nationwide recall of 1436 vehicles across the DS-series RAM 1500, DJ RAM 2500 and D2 RAM 3500 model lines to repair a software issue in the steering column control module.

According to the official notice published on the Vehicle Recalls website, the turn signal lever on the US pick-up trucks might not function as intended, causing the indicators to run continuously rather than self-cancel.

It could also lead to the headlights’ high beams not activating.

Owners are being encouraged to present their vehicles at their preferred RAM service centre for a complimentary software update, with a full list of affected vehicles attached to the recall notice.

It’s worth noting this is an unrelated issue to the DT-series RAM 1500’s steering-related recall issued in 2022.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Australia is recalling 361 examples of the Range Rover Sport, Velar and Land Rover Discovery Sport to amend a manufacturing defect affecting the vehicles’ turbocharger.

The vehicles in question were all produced between 2020 and 2024, and may not have had their turbocharger oil delivery pipe tightened sufficiently, which could ultimately lead to a vehicle fire.

“The pipe may become loose over time and could lead to an oil leak into the engine bay and accumulate in the presence of an ignition source potentially resulting in a vehicle fire,” JLR said in the official recall notice.

Owners of affected vehicles are being contacted by JLR Australia and encouraged to present their car for a free inspection and repair.

A VIN list of affected vehicles is also available.

The turbocharger issue isn’t the only one applying to the Land Rover Discovery Sport at the moment, with 60 vehicles produced between 2023 and 2024 also being summoned back to the dealership to rectify a potentially loose bolt in the front A-pillar.

According to a separate recall notice, “the right-hand side lower A-pillar frame mounting bolt may have not been tightened according to specifications” and could “lead to a reduction of structural integrity in the event of a collision”.

Owners of affected models are being asked to take their car for a free inspection and repair at an authorised JLR service centre, with the list of vehicles attached to the recall notice online.

A third recall notice from JLR Australia this week impacts a small batch of Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Defender models produced in 2023, which may have defective injector clamps.

“The clamps retaining the engine’s fuel injectors may not meet manufacturing specifications and could crack,” JLR said in the official notice.

“If this occurs, fuel may leak in the presence of an external ignition source, resulting in a vehicle fire.”

As with each previous recall, JLR Australia will contact affected owners – in this case, the recall impacts just nine vehicles – and ask them to book a free inspection and repair with their preferred service centre.

A list of affected VINs can be found attached to the recall notice.
