Recall wrap: RAM trucks strike wiper trouble

RAM Trucks Australia has issued a product safety recall for its locally converted RAM 1500 pick-up due to a manufacturing fault relating to windscreen wipers that may operate incorrectly or fail altogether.

The US pick-up distributor says the windscreen wiper blade arm head joints could strip on 2540 examples of the MY19 and MY20 RAM 1500 sold between January 1, 2019 and May 15, 2020.

RAM says it will contact affected owners to have their vehicle inspected and repaired free of charge. To find out if your RAM 1500 is affected, click here.

Meanwhile, McLaren’s recent global recall has been made official in Australia, where 186 vehicles affected by a potential fire risk.

The recall affects MY17-20 McLaren 720S, Senna, 570GT and GT models sold between August 31, 2016 and March 29, 2020 and relates to a piece of foam fitted that could trap moisture and cause corrosion of the fuel tank.

McLaren says surface corrosion of the tank may allow fuel vapour or liquid to leak, which could increase the risk of fire in affected models.

Also recalled in recent days is the Mercedes-AMG G 63, with 155 examples sold between August 1, 2018 and March 31, 2019 called back over wiring harness troubles.

Benz says the wiring harness may not be installed correctly on the front door, resulting in individual cables being damaged while opening and closing the doors.

If the cables are damaged, a number of vehicle functions could be impacted, including the side airbag failing to deploy in an accident and doors that may not automatically unlock after a collision.
