Isuzu Ute Australia (IUA) has issued a national product safety recall involving more than 7000 examples of its popular Isuzu D-MAX ute because parts could fall off it.
A total of 7106 examples of the Isuzu D-MAX X-Terrain – the off-road focussed flagship of the new-generation ute range, priced from $67,500 plus on-road costs – are affected by the recall, all of which were built between 2020 and 2021.
According to IUA, a manufacturing issue could cause the front cover screws of the rear roller tonneau to become loose, which could allow the tonneau front cover to detach from the vehicle while driving.
A company spokesperson told carsales it aware of only one case to date in which the dress (or vanity) plate – a 1.3-metre wide piece of “pretty light” aluminium – in question has fallen off a D-MAX X-Terrain ute.
The IUA representative couldn’t confirm whether the incident occurred while off-roading, but said owners would likely hear a noise from the panel – which covers the barrel that the tonneau cover rolls into – before it falls off due to loose fasteners.
The roller tonneau is fitted only to flagship D-MAX X-Terrain vehicles and IUA told carsales the six screws that hold its front cover in place will be replaced on recalled vehicles.
“Isuzu Ute Australia will contact affected owners in writing, requesting they make an appointment at their nearest Isuzu Ute dealer for inspection and rectification free of charge,” said the company in its recall notice.

Meanwhile, Hyundai has recalled 34 examples of its 2021-built Santa Fe (TM) due to a potentially faulty seatbelt component.
All variants of South Korean-made large SUV are affected, with the safety notice saying “the seat belt pre-tensioner inflator may fracture when deployed in the event of an accident”.
If the inflator fractures, metal fragments may be propelled at high speed towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury.

In other recent recall news, Lamborghini is recalling eight examples of its Huracan supercar, including the new STO as well as the more affordable Evo.
Lambo says the affected MY22 Huracan vehicles could have a faulty passenger door latch, which may not allow the door to be opened externally.
“Due to improper assembly during production, the left door latching mechanism may have been incorrectly positioned and could become loose over time. As a result, the left door may not be able to be opened using the external handles,” said the recall notice.
The Italian car-maker says if the door cannot be opened externally, first responders may not be able to assist vehicle occupants in an emergency.
