Almost 25,000 Subaru vehicles have been recalled after a fault was found in certain 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines.
The vehicles affected are 2012 and 2013 model-year Subaru Impreza (8383), XV (14,413) and Forester models (767), with another 1010 BRZ coupes from sold in 2013.
The issue affects the aforesaid Subaru vehicles' engines via potentially faulty valve springs, which can fracture and, in a worst-case scenario, stall the engine.
The same issue also affects 5407 Toyota 86s sold between 2012 and 2013.
As with all recalls, vehicle owners affected will be contacted by the manufacturer to have their vehicles inspected and fixed at no cost, except for the time the vehicle is off the road.
Meantime, the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe has been recalled due to an airbag fault, which can result in improper rear curtain airbag deployment. In total 666 vehicles are affected and the issue is not related to the Takata global recall, because no Hyundai vehicles use Takata airbags.
When the rear curtain airbags deploy, there is a chance the airbag fabric can be torn by a protruding bolt, resulting in poor inflation. Unlike the Takata airbag situation, Hyundai says there's no risk of shrapnel shards exploding violently into occupants.
Finally this week, 107 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD pick-up trucks have been recalled after it was discovered the park brake cable can become detached. HSV, which performs the right-hand drive conversion of Silverado utes, is in the process of contacting owners to fix the issue.
