Recall wrap: Subaru's ongoing Takata trauma

Airbag replacement program extended, and Toyota announces recalls for Tarago and C-HR

Subaru has ramped up its recall program for Takata airbags fitted to a host of vehicles.

From November 12, it has extended the recall for the front passenger airbag to 16,780 Liberty and 17,617 Outback vehicles sold between 2010 and 2014. In addition, the extended recall also applies to 8432 units of Tribeca (pictured) for the 2007 to 2013 model years and 1366 units of Exiga for the 2010 to 2014 model years. Furthermore, the Impreza for 2008 to 2013 model years (53,972 vehicles) and Forester for 2009 to 2012 model years (66,427 vehicles) are also affected.

Subaru will contact owners by mail as soon as parts are available for replacement of the defective airbags, which have reportedly showered the seat occupant in metal shards, resulting in the death of a Honda CR-V driver in Sydney recently.

Nissan is contacting 28,481 owners of the Qashqai for a right-rear wheel arch protector that may deform and make contact with the brake hose under high-speed/high-load conditions. Abrasion of the brake hose could result in leaking and consequent loss of brakes. Nissan will contact owners by mail for the defect to be resolved.

Toyota is recalling the ACR50 and GSR50 Tarago for seatbelt anchorage bolts that may not have been tightened properly. According to Toyota this applies to vehicles that have a reverse-parking camera fitted. The company will contact owners by mail, informing them of the problem and requesting they attend the nearest authorised Toyota dealer with the vehicle for rectification.

Another recall notice issued by Toyota applies to the C-HR, which may be subject to a fault in the electronic park brake (EPB) system. This could arise as a result of "a small increase in circuit resistance" being misinterpreted by the 'Skid Control Electronic Control Unit' as "an open circuit".

In that event, the EPB will cease to function and a warning light will illuminate in the dash.

Toyota is contacting owners of the C-HR by mail to request the owners bring their cars to the nearest authorised Toyota dealer for the vehicles to be inspected and repaired.
