Recall wrap: Suzuki fixes shiftless Grand Vitara

Also, Range Rover passenger airbag may not deploy and Lamborghini Aventadors may catch fire

Suzuki is recalling over 3000 units of the Grand Vitara SUV built between May 2008 and June 2013.

The problem, according to the importer, is a weak rear shaft in the five-speed manual gearbox shift mechanism. If the shaft should break, the vehicle would be left without the ability to engage gear. In traffic this could endanger the vehicle's driver and passengers.

The importer will contact owners by mail to arrange a visit to an authorised Suzuki dealer to have "countermeasure parts" fitted. Owners are invited to make enquiries through Suzuki's customer service contact number, 1300 967 392.

Jaguar Land Rover will be contacting owners of Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque built for model years 2016 and 2017. The front-passenger airbag may not deploy, says the importer, due to a mix of chemicals used during the production process. These chemicals may not meet the specification required for the airbag to deploy.

VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) ranges for the models affected are as follows:
Range Rover – SALGS2PF6GA310620 to SALWA2KF8GA112983
Range Rover Sport – SALWR2KF3GA111474 to SALWA2KF5GA665736
Range Rover Evoque – SALVA2AN4HH178184 to SALVA2AN2HL921082

JLR is also recalling the Jaguar XE diesel for the 2016 model year, to rectify a leaking fuel cooler located under the floor. In addition to posing a fire risk, the leaking cooler could leave diesel on the road, reducing roadholding for cars following.

The VIN range for the XE diesel is SAJAB4C1XGA900002 to SAJAB4CN0GA911884.

Various models of Lamborghini Aventador built between 2012 and 2017 are being recalled for a design flaw in the fuel tank. In the event the fuel tank is overfilled and the car is driven in a manner creating strong g forces, fuel could reach the charcoal canister. As a consequence, the canister may fail to handle fuel vapour correctly, and the vapour may escape, making contact with the exhaust system. Lamborghini warns that the fire risk is exacerbated with after-market exhausts.

Just over 100 cars are subject to the recall notice, and the importer will contact owners by mail.
