Refreshed 2019 BMW 7 Series leaks again

High-tech luxo limousine leaked again by online configurator

Yet more details of the 2019 BMW 7 Series have appeared after the German car-maker's online configurator accidentally previewed full, undisguised images of the luxury limousine.

Discovered by

, the configurator gaffe follows another recent security breach of the facelifted BMW 7 Series flagship when photographs of the redesigned Benz S-Class-rival were caught at a VIP preview.

Confirming the front design of the new BMW 7 Series will take styling cues from the controversial BMW Concept iX7 Performance that was revealed back in 2017 at the Frankfurt motor show, the new BMW limo sports an enlarged version of the car-maker's trademark kidney grilles.

There's also a pair of slimmer front lamps that are set to incorporate next-gen laser light technology that will provide significantly more powerful illumination on dark country roads.

From the side profile it appears the 7 Series now features large fender extractors that hint at a considerably re-worked aero package.

At the rear, there's a new bumper design, revised graphics for the tail lamps and the inclusion of a full-width LED light bar.

The leaked images also show how the standard 7 Series' styling will differ from the base engines to the sportier M Sport models, and the flagship V12-powered M760i xDrive that gets quad-exhausts.

All models come with updated designs for the wheels.

Inside the luxurious 7 you’ll find BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment controller, which plugs into the car-maker’s next-generation operating system that will be faster and incorporate natural speak voice commands and yet more shortcut gestures.

Under the bonnet the 7 Series will be gifted the recently updated 4.4-litre V8 from the 8 Series that promises to produce even more than the 441kW/750Nm BMW M5.

As well as the V8, it’s rumoured BMW will introduce a new or heavily updated twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder that will produce 250kW and will be available in rear- or all-wheel drive forms.

The mighty 441kW M760i xDrive, meanwhile, will live on post-facelift, but perhaps most interesting will be the introduction of the 745e plug-in hybrid that's set to replace the current 740e iPerformance.

Combining a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with a powerful electric motor to produce about 285kW of power and 600Nm of torque, those reserves of power will be matched by ultra-low fuel consumption and a pure-electric range of about 60km.

BMW is set to officially unveil the updated 7 Series next week ahead of making its public debut at March's Geneva motor show, with sales beginning shortly after in Europe.

Australian details remain scarce at this stage.
