The upgraded 2025 BYD Dolphin has been revealed in China before we’re supposed to see it, having been inadvertently leaked by the Chinese Government.
According to Car News China, the facelifted Dolphin appeared in a recent Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing ahead of its debut next year.
The first pictures show-off how BYD will give the facelifted Dolphin smarter looks, with new wider front lamps, a fresh grille design and a pair of smarter front and rear bumpers, with the front bumper featuring a pair of smaller side intakes.
Detailed measurements included in the filing suggest the entry-level BYD will measure in at around 10mm shorter than the current car – likely due to the revised bumpers – but still weigh 1435kg-1600kg.
A full-width light bar now spans the tailgate and the traditional ‘Build Your Dreams’ badging has been replaced by an edgier ‘BYD’ logo.
According to reports, the refresh will introduce a new 130kW e-motor to split the base 70kW/180Nm system and the flagship 150kW/310Nm version.
It’s thought the revised Dolphin will still be offered with the familiar 44.9kWh and larger 60.5kWh Blade LFP batteries, with the new 130kW e-motor and the flagship 150kW Dolphin sustained by the latter.
The smaller battery provides up to 340km of WLTP range in Australia while the 150kW Dolphin is good for up to 427km on a single charge.
The filing suggests the new Dolphin will come with a panoramic sunroof, the option of a black roof, rear privacy glass and more sophisticated driver assist tech thanks to the addition of front and rear radars and front, side and rear cameras.
An ETA on the new model is yet to be announced but odds are it will arrive Down Under towards the second half of next year with incremental price increases.
