Renault has expanded its turbodiesel passenger car range with the addition of a new turbodiesel version of the Scénic peoplemover.
The new Scénic dCi is offered in five-seat Expression trim as a auto-only and is priced from $37,990. It is powered by the same 1.9-litre 96kW/250Nn turbodiesel engine as the Megane dCi, coupled with a four-speed automatic gearbox.
The standard 2.0-litre petrol Scénic boasts 98kW, but just 191Nm of torque.
The Scénic dCi has a claimed combined fuel consumption of 7.1L/100km, 1.5L/100km better than its petrol stablemate. There's a commensurate improvement in CO2 emissions also - the Scénic dCi produces 188g/km compared to the petrols 205g.
The dCi slots into the Scenic range below the range-topping petrol-only seven-seat Grand Scénic Dynamique. No seven-seat dCi version will be offered, says Renault Australia.
The dCi's Expression trim level features include cruise control (with speed limiter), automatic headlamps and wipers, automatic park brake, electric mirrors and windows and 16-inch steel wheels with trims.
It represents a $4000 premium over the six-speed manual petrol Expression. It is $1500 more than the higher-spec auto petrol Dynamique Scenic five-seater.
The dCi model retains all the Scénic's clever storage options and layout flexibility. And like all current Renault passenger vehicles it features stability control, antilock brakes and dual front, side and curtain airbags as standard. It also scores a five-star Euro NCAP rating.
According to Renault Australia boss, Rudi Koenig: "The Scénic is a great alternative to the traditional Australian family car.
"The new diesel-powered Scénic delivers a unique combination of innovative design, interior space and outstanding fuel economy," he said.
