Renault previews hydrogen-powered concept car

Renault has released a teaser of an all-new concept it will unveil in May and confirmed it will become a new flagship for the brand's "sustainable development strategy".

Made with both recycled and recyclable materials, the still-to-be-named concept is set to showcase the car-maker's all-new hydrogen fuel-cell technology and herald the French marque's new design direction.

In a single front-on picture released, the aggressive four-element LED headlights and lower triangular lighting signature hint at a sharper design language that picks up where the recently unveiled reborn all-electric Renault 5 left off.

According to Renault, the development of the new concept was created with the environment (hydrogen, sustainable materials), safety (next-gen on-board tech) and inclusion (diversity of engineers and designers) front of mind.

Renault has already announced it will switch to pure-electric vehicles in 2030. It's thought the new hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles could be introduced for large SUVs, long-range luxury cars and even commercial vehicles, in which big batteries are less viable.
