Renault releases Clio RS Monaco GP edition

Limited-edition Clio hot-hatch celebrates ritziest F1 GP, for an extra $1000

Renault has released a limited-edition version of its smallest hot-hatch, the Clio RS, priced $38,290 plus on-roads cost.

That makes the Clio RS Monaco GP edition $1000 pricier than the RS 200 Cup Trophy upon which it's based, and with which it shares its 147kW 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine and six-speed dual-clutch EDC automatic transmission.

However, the latest Clio special – the second Renault model to be themed on the world's most famous Formula One Grand Prix since the Megane RS Monaco GP edition in 2011 – will be limited to just 55 examples in Australia.

Highlighting Renault's long-running F1 involvement, the new interim Clio flagship features the same hard-core Cup chassis tune as the Clio RS Cup Trophy, as well as black versions of its 18-inch Radicale wheels.

However, the new Monaco-themed Clio features a number of special cosmetic additions, including unique Pearl White paint with a contrasting Diamond Black roof, and gloss-black grille blades, rear diffuser, side rub strips, door handles, door mirrors, rear spoiler and hatchback strip, plus Monaco badging.

Inside, Dark Metal finishes adorn the steering wheel, gear shifter and speaker surrounds, while the seat belts are finished in Technique Grey and the sports seats are trimmed in Riviera Carbon leather with grey stitching. There are also numbered door sills and Renault Sport mats with grey edges.

The Monaco special also comes standard with extra-tinted rear and side glass, heated front seats, Renault's connected R-Link tablet with RS Monitor 2.0 telemetry and, like all RS models, a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.

“Renault has an enviable history in all facets of motorsport and it is fantastic to be able to extol this with the launch of the Clio RS Monaco GP," said Renault Australia managing director Justin Hocevar.

“The Clio RS Monaco GP combines the acclaimed performance of Renault's latest hot hatch along with the style and sophistication of Monaco, with its elegantly appointed cabin and eye-catching white and black colour scheme.

"Renault Sport is known for constantly invigorating the brand with desirable limited editions and the Clio RS Monaco GP is a fitting addition to the Renault Sport range."
