While most of us will associate the cult '80s television series Knight Rider with 'the 'Hof' (David Hasselhoff) and his advanced Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand), Renault has identified a link between the crime-fighting duo and its next-gen medium-size van, the Trafic.
Following on from the recent European launch of Renault's new Trafic LCV, the French maker has engaged the services of a leading social media agency, We Are Social, to highlight the parallels – obvious, really – between Knight Rider's driver, Michael Knight, and those to whom the new Trafic will appeal.
Under the banner of 'Trafic Rider', the result is a YouTube clip that shows, says Renault, how van drivers and tradies are "today's everyday heroes".
If you can stomach the cheesy marketing angle it's actually a bit of a giggle – especially for anyone who remembers the original TV show. We'll let you decide.
Renault has set up a dedicated website to support the campaign, which also offers an insight into how the clip – death-defying stunts and all – was assembled.
The new Renault Trafic will reach Australia in mid-2015, with pricing and specifications to be confirmed nearer its release. In the meantime, we'll let the Trafic Rider whet your appetite…
